Exclusive First Editions produced two new castings to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Routemaster
E30201 ROUTEMASTER PROTOTYPE Fleet number RM 1, registration number SLT56 operating route 2 to Crystal Palace.
The pioneering use of Aluminium Alloy reduced weight and increased corrosion resistance, combined with a chassisless construction, semi automatic transmission, independent suspension, hydraulic braking and modular components all combined to truly make the Routemaster a bus for the future, ultimately proving itself to be the best bus ever produced. |
|
RM2 registration number SLT57. Although similar in many respects to the Prototype Routemaster, RM2 endured two years rigorous development and testing to grow into the Routemaster we all know and love, with its familiar radiator for improved cooling. Originally entering service in Lincoln green in May 1957, it was very soon after painted red to continue tests in London and was later withdrawn from service in November 1959. |
