Not looking its best, National 1792 (KOM792P) is seen in a maintenance bay, one of the batch delivered and liveried specially for NEC services with dual door bodies. It still has the NEC flag amidships, but has lost the "National Exhibition Centre" lettering above the side windows. The bus went on to have an interesting life, though first acquired standard service livery after its NEC days. It was later painted silver and fitted with a retractable awning on the nearside and used to promote Travelcard sales and as a mobile information unit. It later continued its promotinal work repainted yellow, red and blue in which state it was later sold to London Transit at Stansted, seemingly ending its days as a source of spare parts. Anyone want a side awning for a Leyland National?

The PTE acquired a number of these small buses for a Dial-A-Bus experiment. They were Fords, not Transits, but "the next size up", the A-series, which was not a huge success as either a truck, and less so as a bus, even with Alexander providing the bodywork.
