Carlyle |
||
Carlyle was born out of the old Midland Red bus building works which for many years produced BMMO built buses exclusively for the Midland Red fleet. The old works came back to life with the minibus revolution and deregulation in the late eighties. Initially many 16 seat bodies were built, often on Dormobile frames, on both Ford Transit and Freight Rover Sherpa scuttles. Larger bodies followed and a variety of other base vehicles. When the Dennis Dart appeared on the scene, initial bodies were built by Duple within the Hestair Dennis group. When Duple ceased bus building, Carlyle bought the design and supplied many of the initial Dennis Darts to London. Interestingly when Carlyle ceased the Dart body design was acquired by Marshall of Cambridge, who in turn ceded it to MCV in Egypt. Their Evolution body is literally an evolution of the original Duple design.
