No apologies for a second Volgren Optimus bodied Scania this week as this was undoubtedly the picture of the week. The Japan trip had been planned to photograph the articulated buses like the one on the Fukuoka BRT last week. In checking where the other artics were it was discovered that 29 rigid models had been delivered to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, like N280UB 904. Whereas most modern buses in Japan carry "Non Step Bus" lettering prominently in English, these Scanias are labelled "Flat Floor Bus", apparently the likes of Isuzu and Mitsubishi have not developed such models. With the aid of the hotel reception staff, the one picture of a bus in service on the web was identified as being at Otsuka, one stop away on the metro line. Within five minutes of arriving 904 turned up, but hanging around and having a cup of coffee no more Scanias appeared. Indeed every trip through Otsuka not one of the 29 put in an appearance, so this has to be the picture of the week. The Japanese flags on the front are added decoration for the Golden Week celebrations in the country and the acccession of the new Emperor.
