It was a foul day weatherwise on Tuesday this week, but after seeing the Westways Yutong doubledecker at SHOWBUS it was good to see 419 (CK24AUO) of Newport Transport, even in the pouring rain. Since last visiting Newport the bus station has been split in two, Stagecoach South Wales occupies the north station with Newport Transport in the south. The Yutong U11DD is leaving the south station with a Yutong E12 Z02 behind on the 1 to Cardiff, with a short Yutong E9 off to the right. The roof of an Enviro400 can also be seen. The fleet still boasts a number of diesel buses but generally the new Yutongs dominated the bus station. Alexander Dennis Enviros were in evidence, both Enviro400MMC and Enviro200 models, but Newport favoured the Chinese Yutong over the British buses from Alexander Dennis. Perhaps not surprising, Newport's council was very left leaning at the time of deregulation, their opposition oddly prompting them to threaten running competitive bus services in what they saw as the Conservative heartland of Bournemouth, so buses from Communist China are what they ordered!
