It was a great treat to come across Rodney a few weeks ago visiting the West of England Transport Collection at Winkleigh. Devon General Metro-Cammel bodied AEC Regent V 765 spent some years with Red Rover of Aylesbury as their number 9 - later 109 - and was affectionately known as Rodney amongst the staff there by virtue of its ROD registration. Sadly it was traded in for the bumblebees, Red Rover's stripey Caetano bodied Bedford YRTs, the first such coaches built to grant door specification: an unfortunate compromise! The bus spent some time at an airfield near Banbury and passed to Tony Blackman for preservation in Halifax, but has subsequently moved home to Devon. |
