Optare took a while to score a substantive order for its new Metrodecker doubledeck bus. The pandemic effectively put paid to the launch order for Reading Buses' Green Line services and the electric version, the Metrodecker EV gained two substantive orders from First York for Park & Ride services and Metroline for the 134 in the capital. Other London orders have followed. The only diesel versions were the cancelled Green Line order, the five buses now in service with Johnsons, Centaur and Central Connect. The Metrodecker has strong links with SHOWBUS, the orange diesel demonstrator, YJ65EPU, appearing at SHOWBUS international 2016 and one of Metroline's first electrics OME2654 (YJ19HVE), appearing at SHOWBUS international 2019. This Metrodecker EV, 39503 (YJ20AXA), is seen at the Grimston Bar Park & Ride south of York city. Loop route 8 to the centre conveniently takes it by the local depot for crew changeovers. Metrodeckers were not exclusive to the route, as Mercedes bendibuses were also seen on the 8 when the photo was taken in November this year (2021).
