When the Adelaide STA took control of the independent fleets running Adelaide's services in 1974 it inherited a mix bag of vehicles. An order was placed for ultimately just over 300 distinctively PMCSA bodied Volvo B59s in a silver liver to modernise the operation. The buses still has plenty of life left in them when compulsorily retired at the age of 25. Bus 1300 was the last in service in February 2003 and has been looked after by Torrens Transit ever since at its Camden and Mile End depots, it is thought to be at the latter when photographed in 2005. In 2013 it was spruced up to take part in a Heritage Transport Weekend at Port Adelaide's National Railway Museum.

More conventional PMCSA bodied Volvo B10M buses followed, but in a batch around one tenth of the size of the B59 fleet. Volvo 2405 (WJP444) is seen at the Paradise Interchange in 2005.
