Artics first appeared in the Metro fleet in 1980, with a trio of Volgren bodied Volvo B58 69 seaters. These had been dispensed with by March 2012, but the subsequent deliveries of PMC bodied Volvo B10ML 70 seaters were much in evidence like 712 (MET712) new in 1985. New Custom CB80 bodied Scanias delivered in 2013 and some secondhand MAN artics saw them off. Volvo 712 is loading outside the Post Office for the X1 Metro Express to Bridgewater.

Sister 708 (MET708) is also on the X1. The bus was sold to Hobart Truck Spares and subsequently scrapped

First of the modern low floor artics was 723 (MET723), one of four Custom CB60 Evo II bodied Scania K320UA artics delivered less than a year earlier. The quartet replaced the Volgren artics, with one to spare. It is seen on Elizabeth Street about to pass Meat More, which is no more.
On driver tarining duties was the last of the Volvo B10ML artics, 722 (MET722) new in 1987 and seen in the harbour area, well away from any bus routes. Buses delivered from 1986 (714-722) had three sets of doors rather than the two specified previously.
