Trolleybuses were operated in Hobart for 33 years, the system closing in 1968. Two are preserved at the Museum, seen here side by side in February 2019. Nearer the camera in 74, a Leyland with bodywork but in the Hobart Tramway workshops. The chassis were due to be supplied to China, but the outbreak of World War II meant they ended up at other cities around the world. In Tasmania their China connection earned them the nickname of the Canton trolleys.

The second trolley, 235, was a BUT bodied in happier times in 1952 by City Bodyworks in Hobart. This was Tasmania's last trolleybus and was restored after being saved by the Metropolitan Transport Trust, the forerunner of Metro Tasmania.
