Also in the yard was this totally anonymous Metroliner, no name not even a rego, though clearly used as a school bus once upon a time.

Ready to leave Nelly Bay Bus Station for the quaintly named Picnic Bay is 15 (204ELK), the rego giving this Mercedes OH1418 of 1997 its nickname of Elke. Coachwork is by Custom.

Back to the yard to meet Happy Herbert properly. This 1994 Mercedes LO912 seats no less than 37. It was acquired from Herbert River Express in Ingham which is clearly where it got its name from. The body is quoted as MBS, which almost sounds like it was homemade, were it not for the fact that it first worked for Herbert River. It gained Sunbus fleet number 1516 before leaving the company. On the Island it had been 16 (295EAW).

Cathie J's naming is a mystery, but the Custom SB40 bodied Mercedes OH1728, 23 (496IZC) dates from 2005 and is seen loading for Picnic Bay at Nelly Bay.

A second view of Elke at the popular Horseshoe Bay beach. In case you have not noticed the rear part of the body is unglazed and blinds drape the windows for use in the occasional tropical down pour. Otherwise the glass-less windows are what serve as air conditioning on Magnetic Island.
