A far cry from St Kilda Beach, despite what is on the blind, Melbourne W6 class tram 930 has been in Edmonton since 2004. It last turned a wheel in Melbourne in 1997 when at the tender age of 50 it was put into reserve storage. The streetcar was presented to Edmonton as an ambassador for Melboune and the state of Victoria. After preparations it entered service in 2006. It is in the care of the Edmonton Radial Rail Society, custodians of a fleet of ten old streeetcars, four of which originated in Edmonton. Seen at the terminus of the "High Level Bridge Service" in August 2007, 930 is the only Australian tram in the collection.

 And this is why it is called the "High Level Bridge Service" as 930 is seen perched on the tram only bridge that spans the North Saskatchewan River. Passengers enjoy expansive views over the plains below, Edmonton itself being atop a plateau. The track is relatively short, though the bridge's origins were tracks not only for local streetcars but also for the Canadian Pacific Railway's steam trains. |
