Nakedbus.com was designed as a yield management low fare operation based on the same model as Megabus. The name derived from their tag line "we have stripped out the costs that you don’t need." Operations started in October 2006 out of Auckland and expanded to the South Island the following February. The company was started by Hamish Nuttall, an entrepreneur with IT skills, and operator, Pavlovich. In May 2015 the operation, which had secured a 40% share of the New Zealand express coach market, was taken over by Brian Souter's ManaBus.com, but operations ceased in July 2018, with the two companies being sold to Ritchies.

This BCI Explorer was new to Rotorua based Reesby as 96 (FGU243). Presumably the BCI was under contract to Nakedbus when seen in March 2013. Two years later Reesbys became part of Souter's New Zealand portfolio and the coach came under the ManaBus division as 296. It reverted to 96 when transferred to another Souter fleet, Howick & Eastern.
