Stereotypical of the Santa Monica Bus Lines fleet was this GMC New Look Fishbowl bus, fleet number 5161, seen on Ocean Boulevard in April 2000 at a time when most of the fleet had been repainted into the new all over powder blue big blue bus livery. The type will forever be associated with the Keanu Reeve Speed movie, which had an identical bus performing some amazing stunts, including leaping gaps in a freeway under construction.

The Santa Monica Bus Lines depot is close to the town centre. The open parking has chevroned spaces marked out and labelled with each individual bus's fleet number. GMC Fishbowls can be seen here in both new and old colours. Recharging on the right is a 'Tide Shuttle' electric bus. |
