The Blue Line was LA's first "modern" light rail system with Nippon Sharyo cars. It operates on street at its southern terminus in Long Beach, where lead car 122 is seen in August 2002. As can be seen the cars operate in trains and stop at dedicated stations. Having been opened in 1990 low floor access was not vogue at the time, but American transit systems have long valued accessibility and the stations and cars are access friendly. Further north the Blue Line operates on reserved track along the track bed of an old railway line. In Downtown LA the line goes underground and meets the Red Line at 7th Street / Metro Center / Julian Dixon terminus. |

The Green Line opened in 1995 and is built largely over the central reservation if Interstate 105, the Century Freeway. This picture is taken mid point on the East-West line at the LAX station. Free shuttle buses link to the airport passenger terminals and the station is well served by Metro Bus, Culver City and Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus.

Seen in Long Beach in Ocober 2014 is Nissan car 165 passing Long Beach Transit hybrid New Flyer GE40LF 2426. With the cars on the streets in downtown heads down mobile phone users clearly struggle to see these vehicles heading towards them, hence the massive warnings on the sides.

Newer Siemens P2000 cars had been introduced on to the Blue Line by 2014, like 230 seen in Long Beach on the same day.
