The Shires had a few Optare Excels through company acquisitions, but never bought any new. This one came with the takeover of MK Metro and is seen redeployed in September 2014, in Watford where earlier acquired Excels had operated. Now 3002 (V392KVY) the bus was new to Claribel in Birmingham and was one of the many selected secondhand buys that were a feature of the MK Metro fleet under Julian Peddle's ownership. They were actually acquired third hand after a brief spell with Ogdens of St Helens. Picture ref A5122 |
The first Solos to join the fleet were not bought by the Shires either, but were operated by them on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council initially branded Easyrider. This one, 0448 (Y48HBT), was entered by the Council when new at SHOWBUS 2001. The vehicle was later sold to Lugg Valley in Leominster. |
Solo 0446 (Y46HBT) is seen minus Easyrider branding at work in Aylesbury in May 2003. |
Another of the Bucks Easyrider Solos, 0447 (Y47HBT) was exhibited at a Rally when new, believed to be North Weald in June 2001. |
Another view of 0448 in May 2005 after the bus had been outshopped in a new County Rider green livery. It is seen on the Buckingham Road serving new hosing developments on the fringe of the town.
