With the huge range of vehicle types acquired as the Arriva group grew, some rationalisation took place. Shires knowing something of the Volvo B6 acquired a batch from Clydeside Scottish (Arriva serving Scotland) and sent some Darts northwards in their place. This Volvo B6 is seen shortly after acquisition in Hemel. Not so familiar to Shires was their Alexander Dash bodywork.
Another of the batch, 3247 (M847DDS), is on their favoured route, the 322 from Hemel to Watford.
Dash 3241 (M841DDS) is seen in Summer 2005 at work in Colchester temporarily on loan to TGM's Network Colchester not long after the Arriva operations in that Roman city were taken over by TGM.
Former 3246 (M846DDS) is seen similarly at work in Colchester being followed into the city by several First Essex vehicles.
More common in the Shires fleet were the batches of Northern Counties bodied Volvo B6s originally delivered in the new blue and yellow Shires colours. Volvo 3126 (M726OMJ) is seen in sunny Beaconsfield in February 2004. It is heading for High Wycombe on the 74 from Slough as the route branding informs, but sadly the electronic destination has failed and a laminated "74" can just be seen in the nearside windscreen. |
