New Flyer Industries |
||
New Flyer was named in 1986 as such by a descendant of the Dutch builders den Oudsten, who acquired the then Flyer company that year from the Canadian state of Manitoba. Like many suppliers to the United States bus market, though based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, it has plants across the border in the US (Crookston & St Cloud) to help it comply with buy-American policies. There has been one basic model for many years with designations changed to match floor height, length, power and style. A strikingly different model, Xcelsior was introduced in 2008 and a new joint venture model with Alexander Dennis, based on the Enviro200 was announced in 2012 and subsequently NFI added MCI in 2015 and Alexander Dennis in 2019 to its portfolio. These companies continue to trade under their own names, unlike NABI which was acquired in 2013 and is no more. Models are illustrated of rigid and articulated variants - plus models with different power supplies and floor levels.
