The Optare Tempo was introduced as the replacement for the Optare Excel in 2005. It was never as popular as the Excel and the more stylish similar sized Versa outsold it and the new Metrocity is also more popular. In 2012 the model was given a facelift as the Tempo SR and a batch of thirteen entered service with Trent Barton on their i4 route, and three years later Manchester Airport bought four more, but the model has proved relatively popular in Australia with airport operator, Carbridge taking four. They have been used at Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. This one, 84 (CVL1918), is seen at Perth on the Terminal Transfer service "Connector". Half a dozen joined Ventura last year to join its Solo SR buses, Bus Queensland has three and Dineen's Westernport Roadlines took one in 2017.
