The one and only Alexander Dennis doubledecker in Australia, Enviro500 8774AO may have a new role to play with its original owner Rockleigh Tours. The company originally had a requirement for a disabled access doubledecker for rail replacement and school work. Neither Volvo or cania could supply a suitable chassis, but Alexander Dennis could. Kiwi in New Zealand was elected as the bodybuilder which helped bring about the collaboration between the two manufacturers who have supplied hundreds of jointly built double and singledeck buses to the NZ market. After around ten years service in the main fleet the Enviro500 has been reimagined as a hop-on-hop-off Melbourne city tour bus, suitably branded "The Skippy Bus" with the inevitable kangaroo imagery. City Sightseeing had operated the Melbourne City Sightseeing tour with a fleet of ex London Leyland Titans but the Covid pandemic shut down the operation and it has not reappeared. Oddly The Skippy Tour seems still born. The tour appears to be bookable online, but there have been no sightings of an orange Enviro500 at the predicted times. This photograph has come from their Facebook page. If the bus is seen in service, then the image will be updated.
