 Only the first few of the D class Siemens Combino trams for M>Tram carried the fleetname. National Express pulled out of the contract with the state under which they ran half the trams and suburban trains under the M>Tram and M>Train brands. The systems remained in limbo until on April 18th Yarra Trams assumed resposibility for the entire tram network. Likewise Connex took over all the trains. D tram 3503 is carrying its M>Tram fleetname still a few days before the takeover. Apparently revenues on both trams and trains was not up to expectation and National Express felt it had no option but to cut and run. | ||

 A pair of Combinos moving up Swanston Street. The first Combino trams left Bremerhaven, Germany aboard the Swedish registered Boheme on the 31st January 2002 and were due in Melbourne on the 12th March 2002, but there was no sign of them in service in August. Likewise in April 2004 when this picture was taken there was supposed to be some five section Combinos (like those in Amsterdam) about to enter service. They actually entered service under Yarra Trams ownership. | ||
