 PMC 160 bodied Mercedes O405 3381-3398 were destined to be the first of a new standard for Sydney's buses, but plans changed as they were being delivered in 1990. Only the first six were delivered as dual door, the rest arrived with only the front entrance and coach seating for use in red livery on the Sydney Explorer, or, as in the case of 3383, the Airport Express for which they were painted in yellow and green. The buses were made redundant when the Explorer service was sold to City Sightseeing and the rail line was built to the airport. Some of the buses were sold off and others, like 3383, painted into bus livery and used on route work, despite some of them still being single door. In November 2016 3383 was a new acquisition and squeezed into the Leichhardt Museum. It still retains its second door so hopefully it will be restored to Airport Express livery in due course.
