No mistaking the time of year this photo was taken! The year was 2011 in the days before Christmas. Car 2107 is foremost at the Elizabeth Street terminus awaiting to start a run on the 59, while set back, is car 2078 about to depart on the 19. The well decorated edifice is of course, Flinders Street Station.

Earlier, on October 26th 2011, Her Majesty the Queen visited Melbourne. Federation Square was a focus for spectators and car 2036, aided by a crowd marshal, bursts through the multitudes to progress up Flinders Street before it was finally sealed to traffic. On the left the red, white and blue Royal Tram (Z3 158) awaits Her Majesty - and the road closure.

Occasionally B class trams get to work back on the 96, usually the preserve of the five section Combinos and the Bumblebees before the advent of the E Class. Car 2047 is leaving the Acland Street terminus in St Kilda in early January 2012.

On the occasion of the St Kilda Festival in February 2012, B class cars abounded on the 96 amongst the many trams supplementing the service. The route was foreshortened at St Kilda Station, just before Fitzroy Street which was closed to traffic. Cars 2036 and 2024, with Combino 5008 sandwiched in between, wait for the platform to clear so they can drop their passengers and switch tracks back to the city.
