This picture is a reminder of the days before digital cameras. It was August 1992 and the first trip to New Zealand, crossing on the ferry between the North and South islands the film jammed in the camera. Managed to find a dark room on board to ease the film, but light still leaked in spoiling many images on the roll, even this one in Christchurch taken a day or so later. It was typical of the then Christchurch fleet, labelled "Big Red Bus" it was a huge three axle MAN with bodywork by Designline-Hess, 678 (PI3074) and is outside the Cathedral, since partially destroyed by the earthquake in 2011. The MAN passed to Leopard Coachlines. |

Receiving attention on the depot hoist in April 2004 was 627 (NF2116) a 1987 Coachwork International bodied two axle MAN SL202. The bus was sold to to NCS (New Zealand Coach Service) in Wellington keeping fleet number 627 but re-registered FPS481, ultimately they scrapped it for parts.

A year younger, sister vehicle 649 (NK1298), seen in the city on route 12 around the same time, passed to Go-bus as their 543 and it too ended up scrapped by 2014. |

The last MAN SL202 buses joined the fleet in 1990 like 668 (PB4885), yet another with Coachworks International body, though the last SL202, 670, had a Designline/Hess body. MAN 668 was another to pass to Go-bus as their 564. It went on for further service with Sounds Connection of Picton and was later sold for non-psv use around 2020. |
