Assisting the fleet of four ex London Leyland Titans are a pair of former City of Oxford Leyland Olympians, previously used on Malta. Gulin (8514AO) was new as Oxford 225 (E225CFC) in 1988 for the 280 Oxford - Aylesbury service. It later saw service on the city Park & Ride services and with the Wycombe Bus Company subsidiary. When Arriva bought Motts Yellow Bus operations the bus passed to Arriva the Shires with the rationalisation of services in High Wycombe. It went from Arriva to Malta. It is seen here alongside Federation Square, the tour start point, with several of the Titans on the second day of 2014. It has been fitted with the same style of roofing and "bunny ear" mirrors as the London Titans. Picture ref A1519 |
The bus was photographed earlier in November 2013 at the same location. Picture courtesy of Nidhi Sharma |
The second Olympian in the same location on the same day, Giuseppi (8515AO), had a similar prior life to Gulin, being new as Oxford 229 (E229CFC). It had a higher profile during its Wycombe Bus Company days being painted in commemorative livery for the Thames Valley Traction Company. Picture ref A1521 |
Its day's work over, Giuseppe departs Federation Square and heads home one evening late in March 2014 with Melbourne Cathedral as a back drop.
