VR 501 (SRX945G) was the second of the first pair of VR doubledeckers delivered to Thames Vallley. The bus seated ECW body on the VRTSL6G chassis is seen leaving when new Reading Bus Station for London on the express route A via Bracknell and Ascot.

501 is seen again on service B from London to reading via Slough and Maidenhead. It is seen from a footbridge over the A4 at the Slough East junction with the M4 at Langley.

Following on from the initial pair of VRs, the next batch totalled 6. They were the first new buses in the fleet to have abandoned the T-style destination layout. 502, the first of the batch is seen with 504 in Thorn Walk depot, Redaing, being prepared for service. The destination blind box on UBL245G (504) still retains the tape as the aperture is masked down to a single line display. The buses have yet to receive their fleet number plates.

The next 5 VRs were registered in a mix with a batch of LH buses delivered at the same time, the VRs were 508-512 (VMO223/4/9-31H). This is 511 in the yard at Bracknell depot.
