Motts Travel acquired former Boroline 753 (E153OMD) from Arriva, to whom it passed with the Maidstone fleet. The bus was new for LT contracts in South East London and is seen in Waddesdon, the body is by Optare to the design it inherited from Roe. |
For the 2004 Centenary of the founding of Maidstone Corporation - though the company had ceased to exist when swallowed by Arriva - a special rally was held in Maidstone in July. The SHOWBUS crew took Motts ex Boroline Olympian to the event to help promote the SHOWBUS rally. It is seen between a new Arriva Park & Ride liveried VDL SB200 with Wright body, 3969 (GN04UGG), and an early Dart SLF which Arriva had repainted into a version of Maidstone Corporation livery: 3176 (P176LKL). |
Rob Passaway and Dave Reid, key members of the SHOWBUS team, pose with the Olympian. |
In 2005 Motts moved into brand new purpose built premises near the centre of Aylesbury. This enabled them to close depots at Kingswood, Stone and Stoke Mandeville. The well laid out new facility has marked parking bays. The ex Boroline bus is seen in July sandwiched in a line up of ex Shearings Leyland Tigers with Alexander Belfast bodies - with E28UNE next to the Olympian - and a pair of the ex East Kent Metrobuses. |
This 2009 view shows the Motts doubledeck fleet in transition. The coach seated MCW Metrobuses from East Kent - F163EKM & F166EKM - and the Optare bodied Leyland Olympian from neighbouring Boroline are lined up with one of the first CIE Leyland Olympians, reregistered KSK965, which used to be RH160 (93D10160) in Dublin. The Metrobus on the left is from West Midlands 2991 (F991XOE). Soon all were to be replaced with further Irish buses. |
