Seen here at Showbus 1999 alongside Paul S Winson's award winning Neoplan Skyliner is two month old Oxford Tube 55 (T55UBE) boasting a personal registration. This is one of the batch of pioneering Jonckheere Monaco bodied MAN 24.350 doubledeck coaches with the added attraction of wheelchair provision.
One of the most unusual sites is at Lewknor, just below the M40. Often two of the Tube's striking new doubledeckers, 54 (T54BBW) can be seen briefly nestling under the motorway. Cars get scattered in laybys and even on the path under the bridge. This is a Park & Ride of an unusual nature which has proved popular and has since been improved, but not on the scale of Thornhill's Park & Ride site.
There was some delay between the official launch and the new doubledeck Tube coaches entering service. This one is seen flashing down the M40 near High Wycombe just as services got under way.
With the service in full swing the red giants were a familiar site on the M40 even in the December 1999 snows.
Tube 48 (T47BBW) arrives at Gloucester Green, Oxford, where the red giants gather - typically half a dozen could be seen at any one time!
