STE is also responsible for Mexico City's only remaining tram line which runs from Taxquena to Xochimilco. The line was extensively upgraded over a two year period, reopening in 1986. It used to be operated by classic PCC streetcars and several were being refurbished when the 1985 earthquake caused the workshop to collapse crushing the cars. Bombardier built some of the rolling stock in use in 2018, like ML029, the cars having been delivered from 1991 when they replaced a mix iniial stock for the new line which largely included cars built using recycled components, which did not help their reliabilty.
