That first Excel for Reading, 901 (P901EGM), seen here in the December 1999 snows at Handy Cross, near High Wycombe on the 328 service from Reading. Like many of Reading's Excels it was ultimately exported to Ritchies in New Zealand as their 607 (DMJ918). |
The rear view of 901. The 328/329 routes were normally the preserve of Reading's Vectras and Deltas, alongside Wycombe Bus Lynxes. With more Excel deliveries to Reading, some of the earlier models appeared on the odd occasion on the 328.

Excels dominated Reading with three here parading through the town centre.

Excel 947 (R202DKG) is one of several bought surplus from Cardiff Bus which had standardised on Dennis Darts. Most of the batch were later shipped to Eastbourne in exchange for doubledeck Spectras. Reading requiring more deckers for Park & Ride and Night services supported by the Borough. However 947 was one of the five to end up in Auckland as Ritchies 672 (CSM933). The batches Cardiff fleet numbers matched their registrations, so this was 202 in Wales. |
Ex Cardiff Excel 954 (R209DKG) approaches the outskirts of High Wycombe on the service that used to be Thames Valley, then Alder Valley, then Bee Line, then joint Reading Buses and Bee Line, then joint Reading Buses and Wycombe Bus, then joint Reading Bus and Arriva and now wholly Arriva! Excel 954, having been 209 in Wales became 41 in Eastbourne. It later went on to work for South Gloucestershire Bus and Coach and then transferred to sister company CentralConnect in the West Midlands. It then passed to Red Arrow in Huddersfield in and ultimately to Edwards Coaches in April 2010. |
