Excel 953 (R208DKG) is seen in Wycombe Bus Station, not long after arrival from Cardiff. This Excel had a similar post-Reading life to 954 becoming Eastbourne 40 and passing on to South Gloucestershire and later to Red Arrow in Huddersfield. |
Not surprisingly, Reading rapidly built up a fleet of Optare's integral Excel low floor singledeck bus and christened them 'Low Riders'. They were used on specific services, with some in special 'Park & Ride' colours. Excel 908 (P908EGM) is seen on the 15 service. It joined many others with Ritchies as their 632 (DKE970).

Seen together are, what were at the time, Reading's first and last Excels - 901 & 940. This view clearly shows the windowless rear of 940. On the previous page, you can see the different treatment of 901's rear as 953 above. As already stated 901 went to New Zealand and 940 joined it as Ritchies 667 (CSY466).

A better view of 940 at Reading Station.

Seen at Reading Stations in July 2008 is Excel LowRider 918 (R918SJH). This was another Excel to end up Down Under as Ritchies 657 (CSY464). |
