United Counties 88 (G388PNV) has found its way to Brighton. The Volvo B10M/Plaxton Paramount 3500 is an Expressliner in premium service Rapide livery. |
An unusual purchase for a National Bus Company was the Alexander AT body as seen on this Leyland Leopard, 228 (MRP228P) at Victoria Coach Station, bound for Nottingham on National Express route 550. Alongside is a relatively old Bristol REMH6G of Eastern Scottish with Alexander M coachwork for the long distance service to Edinburgh, XA272A (LFS272F). |
In later years the Alexander Leopards, with a slightly updated National Express insignia, were relegated to bus work. Leopard 226 (MRP226P) is seen on layover in Milton Keynes Bus Station with newer Willowbrook bodied 238 (KVV238V). |
The National Express route 550's predecessor was United Counties MX1 Motorway service. The Plaxton coaches on this page are a bit of a luxury for United Counties. Motorway Express passengers had to content themselves with this dual purpose ECW bus shell bodied Bristol RELH6G, 288 (WBD288H). The other vehicles in the coach station are a lovely collection of nostalgic coaches from the days before the white coach arrived. The Wallace Arnold Leyland Leopard alongside is off to Malaga for a Spanish holiday. |
