Ipswich's first motor buses were AEC Regent III with Park Royal bodywork in 1950. Up until then the town was served by trolleybuses. This was the last Regent III delivered in 1956, 24 (EPV24). Deliveries then switched to the Regent V. Now preserved, 24 was seen at Southsea in 2003 alongside Swindon's preserved Weymann bodied Daimler CVD6, 112 (UMR112). |
Regent 24 was at Southsea again in 2001. |
Seen in Ipswich around 1980 was the second AEC Regent V, 26 (FPV26). The mark of the Regent may have changed, but Park Royal bodywork was still the choice.

Side by side at the depot in August 2005 are former London Olympian L100 (C100CHM), an ECW bodied Leyland example, and 40 (M640EPV) an East Lancs bodied Volvo Olympian new to the fleet in 1995. Volvo 40 is named BEATRICE MAUD and 45 (former L100) is sturdily named ROYAL OAK.

Another secondhand acquisition was 38 (H705PTW), formerly in the Dublin Bus fleet as RH38 (90D1038) and interestingly rebuilt from dual door. It was one of the first buses to adopt the new livery and is seen here at SHOWBUS international in 2003, the year it joined the fleet. The Olympian has gained the name WESTERN SOVEREIGN.
