The CDC operations in the Sydney area have their origins in the Bosnjack family business, once the largest privately owned bus company on Australia. The Bosnjack's also owned National Bus in Melbourne, set up to privatise a large part of the city's bus operations in 1993 and also traded as National Bus in Queensland, having taken over Bayside Buslines in Brisbane in 1997. In 1999 the UK's National Express invested substantially in the Westbus - National Bus empire but divested their operations in 2004/2005. The Melbourne company was sold to Ventura, the Brisbane one to Connex, now Transdev. The Melbourne operation also passed to Transdev in 2013 following retendering by the state. Meanwhile the Sydney operations were acquired by Singapore based CDC, ComfortDelGro Cabcharge, who own 75% of SBS in their home country and Metroline in London. The Sydney purchase included Blue Ribbon Bus in the Newcaste area and further acquisitions were merged into the Hunter Valley Bus Company, embracing the Toronto Bus Service, Morisset Bus Service and Sugar Valley Coachlines. In 2012 Deane's Canberra area operations were acquired and renamed QCity and in 2014 the Blue Mountains Bus Company was added to the fold, followed by Forest Coach Lines and Buslink in 2018.
